DTEC and Carbone Terre a Terre (CTaT) attended NYC Climate Week together and took meetings focused on how climate finance can drive boreal forest restoration after the catastrophic 2023 wildfires which destroyed over 18M hectares of Canadian forest and caused over 1M hectares of regeneration failures – sites that won’t regenerate naturally after fire.
We met with representatives of the Waswanipi Cree First Nation (WCFN) to explore how WCFN-led Nature-based Climate Solutions could help restore tens of thousands of hectares destroyed by wildfires as well as building a high level of resilience for this Cree community. WCFN lives in an area of very high wildfire risk that threatens settlements and even the Cree way of life. The WCFN asked CTaT to assist it in exploring how voluntary carbon mechanisms can help them achieve their objectives.
