Down to Earth Carbon and other Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector organizations will share insights into the paramount importance of Indigenous Peoples (IP) and small land-holders in achieving carbon emission reductions that are permanent and equitable. We’ll be looking for ways to overcome major barriers like lack of recognition of Indigenous rights and of smallholder tenure. Free Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) is not enough. IP and smallholder cooperatives need to be empowered to drive the bus on their roads to resilience. If a critical threshold of unity amongst these key stakeholders is then established, they can become a major force in Climate Change mitigation and adaptation!
