Down To Earth Carbon
As a full cycle climate forest project originator, Down to Earth Carbon (DTEC) is actively working to bring on stream its first generation of forest climate pilot projects. DTEC’s primary forest climate project focus initially will be on community and cooperative-driven Afforestation/Reforestation or AR. Other types of forest climate projects, such as REDD+, IFM, fuel switch and clean energy will be considered at a later date. While conservation of existing forest carbon reserves (i.e. REDD+ and IFM) must still be a priority, shifting away from poor, unsustainable, agriculture and energy wood practices towards sustainable high-yielding systems on degraded lands adjacent to forests is the single most important way of protecting those forests. Hence, DTEC early efforts will be directed at bringing excess atmospheric carbon back down into terrestrial ecosystems using scientifically-sound, community-driven AR initiatives.
DTEC facilitated AR projects will be powered by progressive strategic partnerships that facilitate the equitable integration of smallholder and Indigenous value chains with progressive industrial supply chains. Such community-led atmospheric decarbonisation will also be a good example of fair trade in ‘payment for ecosystem services’ or PES. Getting these fundamental relationships right, will bring a level of equity and full stakeholder buy-in that will guarantee the permanence of large-scale climate benefits.
